You might be going for a relaxing vacation, visiting a beach, running an all-day errand, or really anything that might take longer than you'd like your best friend (dog) to be home alone. Even if he has another dog with him- is he really safe? And do you really want to keep him in the kennels locked in a cage all day? And if he hasn't yet learned all his manners, what if he tears the carpet, rips papers, or chews at the sofa?
Do you want to keep him with total strangers??? The answer is probably "No". But that may be the only option. (This article is not to promote petsitting, but rather to help you decide what to do when you come to one of the above situations)
The PROS of pet sitters: If you can really find a good, reliable, person to take care of your Fido, then hiring a pet sitter would be a great option. Better than leaving your pet in a cage at home, which would be cramped and, another thing to consider is the problem of your pet pooping in his cage! But it's your choice if you want to leave him standing in his own... stuff.
The CONS of pet sitters: What kind of money are you paying your pet sitter? Is it really in your budget, or do you have to rush out to an appointment or meeting, and it's one of those times when you "Figure you'll just stop by the bank later." ? Also, one of the main things to think about is leaving your pet at home- with a total stranger. (If you have a friend that's willing to take care of the pets, though, that may help with both of the above.) That's right. Who knows if he might not feed the dog, may let him tear into things or let him misbehave? Or even claim ownership of the dog, or just plain steal your dog. Yep, this may happen, but it's probably rare enough that it wouldn't.
So, I am definitely not the best writer, as I'm already wrapping up this article, but here we go.
It's your choice. You can let others watch your dog, or find another solution as in keeping him in the kennels all day, cramped, which is about the same situation as keeping him in a cage at home (which is another option), besides the fact that he'll have no bathroom for that matter, in a cage at home unless somebody is watching over him which would basically be petsitting but mostly just staying in the room to let him out for bathroom and giving him some food or water and maybe clean up his messes. There's also the option to just stay home if it's too much work to find a way to take care of this dog or if you'll just miss him. (Of course, for some, that's not really an option if they are going on a business trip or important meeting/date.)
So? What'll you choose? Fill out the poll below now!
